The Price of Boredom For Some Folks

We almost had to pick up my 87 year old mother from the floor when my brother’s fiance told us that she was having a swimming pool put in the backyard in the next month or so for her own personal health reasons. If that wasn’t enough to jump start mom’s heart, the announcing of the $70,000 price tag about killed her dead, leaving this world with her chin dropped and mouth wide open. My mother is aging quickly and is in poor health which is doing nothing but declining, so she is having a hard time adjusting to life and everyone else’s life right now, it doesn’t take much to freak her out, while being very vocal and negative on just about every subject under the moon.

It didn’t take mom long to start pointing out all the time, work and money that it takes to have a swimming pool. What with all of the chemicals that are extremely important, the water bill, the cleaning products, the pool cover, and of course swimming pool liners are a must and those “don’t come cheap” she (my mom) can’t help but blurt out, along with everything else that people buy to use and enjoy the luxury of owning your own backyard pool.

The real kicker was when we were told that she would probably use it for the first year and become bored with it and there it will sit, empty, useless.

An Early Rising

For some reason this morning I woke up before the sun was even up. I could see a hint of the dawn in the Eastern sky from my kitchen window as I stood in front of the sink and filled my coffee pot. The birds were already chirping and the street was quiet – no cars yet.I really did enjoy that little hour of solitude this morning. Now the sun is shining and the temperature is up in the 70′s with a nice little breeze. I can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the rest of my day in the garden.
