My Love of Books

I’m like most people in the fact that I will do just about anything to get out of going to a doctor’s office. But the one good thing that I can say about my particular doctor that I see a few times a year, is that he always has a box of Free Used Books for folks to pick through and take home if wanted. I always come home happy as a clam with an armload of new books for me to read. And of course when I arrive at my appointments, I come in with a full load of my already read books to add to his offering, it works out very well.

Merry Moose-mas

We are going to the lodge up in Maine for the Christmas holiday. Not having Christmas at home has its own challenges – like transporting gifts out of town.

We have booked a special Christmas sleighride across a gentleman’s farm and a private dinner at an inn known for their New England style of home cooking.

Looking forward to a nice time. Sorry I won’t be posting for a bit while we are gone. Can’t count on the internet up there plus I doubt I’ll have much time to myself.

So, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Two Thousand Santas

Can you imagine seeing 2,000 Santas in one place? Can you imagine seeing all 2,000 racing down the public street in a charity marathon? Every year in December there is the Santa Run in Hamburg, Germany.

I would have loved to see that! Maybe next year?

Let It Snow!

Our first real snowfall today! How magical!

We had snow flurries one night last week, but most people were asleep in their beds and it melted as soon as the sun came up, so I didn’t see the snow falling. But tonight it started snowing just as I was getting ready to turn in for the night. They say it will snow all night and cause all the schools to close tomorrow. If there is no school then I don’t have to go in to work, either!

I hope it is the good snow that you can make snowballs and snowmen. Sometimes the snow is so dry and small that is doesn’t roll up. And sometimes it gets a layer of slick and crunchy ice on top so you can’t roll it. We’ll just have to wake up early and see what kind of snow we have tomorrow!

Internet Shopping

One of the very cool things about the internet is that I can shop for things that are in Europe or the Far East without having to get on a plane and go there. I was shopping for a particular style of shoes by searching the internet and ended up on a web site in France.

Now, I had a ton of questions – are the sizes comparable to U.S.A. sizes? How does the money convert so I know what I have to pay in U.S. dollars? How much extra is the shipping? How long does it take to arrive here from France?

I guess I’ll find out some of this today when I order the shoes that I love and absolutely  MUST have.
