18 Wheelers

I’ve several friends and a few relatives involved in the shipping industry. I’ve even a cousin as well as a couple of close friends who do, what they like to call, over the road trucking, and haul freight for companies that ship Mexico freight, as well as all over the USA and Canada. They spend a lot of time on the road and tell me that if not for the company that provides the logistics to ship things internationally, then they’d pretty much be mired in delays and customs problems. My cousin once told me that the company they use has recommendations from the Defense Department and even airlines like Continental. But shipping lanes and airports, although an integral part of the transportation industry pales in comparison to the importance of over the road transportation. You have to figure, if you can’t get the trucks out, loaded and on the road on time and under budget, it could be devastating to businesses in general. Without the trucking industry running efficiently the whole world could find their economy collapsing. Now that wouldn’t go over very well at all with the truckers. Not to worry though, with companies like Logistics Group International Inc., who handle every aspect of getting loads to the right destination on time and under budget, the shipping industry is in good hands. It is a point of pride for the company and its employees that no matter how small or how large the project, L.G. I. has the resources to ensure a quality transport solution, every time. And I believe that may even be a direct quote.

My cousin, of course, is a specialized heavy haul transportation driver and has his own rig. He hauls freight to Mexico mostly, but he has had routes that took him to Canada as well. As a matter of fact I think he mentioned something about hauling an “over-sized load” from Mexico to somewhere in Tennessee this coming week. His company uses L.G.I. for all their shipping solutions and he swears by them.

Brother’s Keeper

For once my brother is asking for my opinion about wireless security cameras and the like. He lives in a neighborhood that is slowly deteriorating and he and some neighbors have been missing things here and there from their yards lately. My brother travels a lot, so his house is left empty quite often and he his becoming more and more concerned about the safety of belongings and wants to do something about it. He is in the computer business and has quite a lot of money tied up in all of his equipment and he doesn’t have it all insured, so if any of it was stolen it would set him back a lot. His next door neighbor is looking into the same thing to have done to his place also.A buddy of his recommended using a company by the name of IT Planet (They are a worldwide distributor of auto-id equipment and accessories) that has a website of Itplanet.com so that you can order online with same day and free shipping on their merchandise. They have a selection of these security cameras that are of the wireless variety to choose from and he wanted to see if his selection was the best one, in my opinion.

It turns out that I would have to agree with his decision and his selection, I hope that this will make them all feel and be much safer in the future.

Cash & Carry Please

Yesterday I left the house in a hurry because I must have slept right the alarm and woke up very late. So as I rushed about the room grabbing clothes and my keys, I inadvertently left my money clip behind. Strangely enough, I didn’t even miss having cash in my pocket until I pulled into the gas station to fill up the car. Usually I go into the convenience mart and pay cash for the gas, pick up a cold or hot drink, and tuck away the receipt. So when I went into the store and realized that I had no cash in my pocket, I had to use my credit card to make my purchase. Now, I try not to use the plastic much, but if the store did not accept credit cards then they would have lost that sale, and I would have been running on empty trying to race the fuel gauge home and risking being stranded on the side of the road with no gas.

The Veteran’s Hospital

A friend asked me to drive him up to the VA medical center for an appointment he had for his skin condition. Turns out its a really bad case of Psoriasis brought on by treatments he was taking for hepatitis C, of which the VA had recently cured him of. Surprising to me, being as I used to think it was pretty much the end of the line if your blood were infected with it.

Seems now they have a cure for it, and he says the treatment wasn’t pleasant but that it wasn’t really all that bad either. So now he has to deal with bad skin outbreaks, like having dandruff from Hades I guess. But he swears by the VA. And I always let him know that his time in service to this country is, beyond all doubt, greatly appreciated.

Shocking Mail from my Oil Company

I got quite a shock this morning when I opened the mail and found a notice from the heating oil company. They say that with the huge price increases for gasoline and heating oil, that my monthly bill is going to have to go up.

What I find astonishing is that the monthly bill last year was only $175 each month. The new monthly bill will be $640. I about passed out from shock at the thought of the monthly bill going up almost four times what it was last year.

I might be mistaken but I believe the cost of gasoline has gone up about $1 since this same time last year. That is a big jump and it hurts our wallets, but it is not a 400% increase. So why is the heating oil going up so much? I truly don’t understand these economics and I don’t know what alternatives we have to heat our home other than the oil furnace that I have, but who can afford to spend as much on their monthly utility bills as they pay for their mortgage?

I think Congress needs to start figuring out a “bail out plan” for the average American citizen and to hell with those multi-millionaire crooks on Wall Street that are having “money troubles.”
