Pest Control

It really shocked me when my mother turned down my invitation to go to the movies because she is very paranoid about catching bed bugs. No matter what I said or did she firmly kept refusing and my daughter twisted the whole thing around to where she thinks her grandmother doesn’t want to go to the movies with us because of her. This has been a constant battle between the three generations of females that just can’t seem to communicate with one another without someone taking it the wrong way and/or getting their feelings hurt on some type of level, sigh…..

It is a well known fact that bed bugs are becoming a huge issue with tons of people everywhere, as well as head lice. The pest control companies are being kept crazy busy and people are flocking to find new ways to prevent the spread of these unwanted critters, but this can’t make us so paranoid that it interferes with your daily life and relationships that we cherish and are hard to come by these days.

Funny thing is that my mother and step-father are currently on their way to Florida for a couple of weeks visiting friends and relatives and enjoying all that the “Land of Sunshine” has to offer. They plan on staying at various motels/hotels on their way down and back up again, which are more likely to infect someone with numerous unwanted critters. Go figure!

Quick Fixes

I really do like that we are seeing more and more public restroom hand dryers being installed in the rest rooms of America all across the country. These high tech airblade hand dryers can really help reduce the spread of germs, while giving us a pretty good quick fix for the drying of our freshly washed hands. The fact that these air blade hand dryer products are now helping in reducing the amount of so many paper towels being used as well as the tremendous amount of paper towels that are out and out being wasted from people going over board with the amount of these products that they pick up, with out much of a second thought, with absolutely no chance of being used or of being recycled. Although I do like to have a paper towel to be able to use to hold onto when opening the germ ridden door handle to leave the restroom, but that is for another time to discuss because this is an important issue with me.

These electric hand dryers may be using our precious electricity, but it is helping in numerous other positive ways and I constantly urge more places to purchase one or more and have them installed in their restrooms in businesses country wide. I also bring to their attention for the need to provide a simple antimicrobial handles to hang a purse or coat is a must for heaven’s sake. Their is nothing worse than the thought of having to place my purse on the dirty, nasty floor right next to the toilet, when a simply hook would allow us to not only hang our purse, but our jacket, a diaper bag and all the other things that woman are known to tote around with them on a daily basis.

A Home Energy Audit, A Win Win Situation All The Way Around

When all is said and done it really just comes down to making sure that we do what we can in order to save our precious energy (and there are numerous types of energy) in any way that we can. Not only is it a matter of periodic energy shortages, but the cost of the energy that we all are relying on is still sky rocketing and hitting us right in the wallet, right where it really hurts us the worst.

We have been talking about having a home energy audit at our house, much like the home energy auditors that came out to my in-laws house last year that turned out quite well for them utilizing one of the many federal grants for home improvement.  Once again we really have been blessed with an unusually warm winter so one has to think about the price we may have to pay for lower heating bills for the past 3 or 4 months. We could have a really cold summer or worse a really hot one, guess we will find out here in just a few short months.

Energy Audit Scheduling

Schedule Your Online Energy Audit

I’ve just recently found a home insulation contractors website that I’ve book marked that offers a home energy audit and will put it on top of the ever growing list of things to do for our home and our wallets. It’s a win, win situation all the way around. You may want to consider doing the same thing for your residence and/or business, it’s all good.

School Ideas

Going back to school is something that I have been thinking about and keeping in the back of my head for several years now and I am now researching the idea a bit more and the urge to learn something interesting is getting mighty powerful. It just makes sense considering that the company that I work for will pay the majority of the bill and it will possibly raise the amount of money that I am earning, depending on what courses/classes that I take.

Today at our H.R. department I was given a good amount of literature that they keep on hand and piled up in that department, one of the papers suggested going online and looking at the professional engineering courses that are available to take by going to many websites that they made available to me in all of the papers that I came home with to go through.

There are several areas that I’m interested in and it will take some time to figure out just what path I want to take, but one class stood out from all of the others, it is called Future Energy Sources and is described briefly as follows: “This course describes the state-of-the art, cutting edge efforts by scientists and engineers in the United States who are involved with research to continue to find alternate energy sources for the future.” I really like the sound of that and want to look further into it as soon as possible.

Green Geeks

A very hot topic in today’s world, besides the economy, Wall Street, the war and the up and coming election, seems to be all about going and becoming as Green as possible. I came from a family who took always recycling very seriously and we all did what we could possibly do in order to keep our earth clean and safe as possible in a time that it wasn’t all that it is today. It is so cool to find that more and more businesses are taking the Green issue a lot more seriously then they ever have before.

Yesterday at work the chatter was all about green website hosting, when someone spoke up and mentioned that they had found a website that rates the top 10 green webhosting providers, which apparently not many people even knew that any of these options were out there. So in a flash someone got over to their computer and found this top ten  list which we all found to be very interesting and informative. GreenGeeks gets my vote, since they are 300% wind powered green web hosting, which I find is pretty darned impressive. This list can be found at webhostinggeeks.com, where you can find good quality information on all types of web hosting options, reviews, ratings, blogs and awards all on one site. It’s what you would call a one stop site for your web hosting wants and needs. And since I feel so strongly about the “Green” issue I wanted to pass this information along here today.
